Collision in Queens Wrecking Two Vehicles
March 30, 2008

Five people were injured - one critically - after two minivans collided on a Queens street early Saturday, officials said.

A 27-year-old man was rushed to New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens after he suffered serious trauma in the head-on collision that wrecked the two vehicles at the corner of Northern Blvd. and 85th St. at 5:17 a.m., an FDNY spokesman said.

Four other people, including one woman who suffered a shattered leg, were taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center, the FDNY spokesman said.

Their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Witnesses said one of the vehicles tried to pull a U-turn at the Jackson Heights intersection, putting it directly into the path of the other van.

The identities of the injured were not immediately released.
